Supporting research across the full spectrum of medical sciences in Scotland

Objectives

Aims
To assist young research staff who have yet to establish a track record, to get research programmes underway.

To support new & innovative medical/dental research projects.

Topics
The full spectrum of medical sciences. Donors may nominate specific areas, eg. cancer research, mother & baby research, heart disease, etc.

Income
Trusts, legacies, Gift Aid, donations, fundraising events.

Research Grants
Up to £12,000 or part thereof for equipment and consumables but rarely salaries. From time to time larger grants may be given.

Controls
All projects subject to approval by an independent National Scottish Scientific Advisory Committee (NSAC).

Monitoring
An initial Start-Up Report and a Final Report enable the NSAC and local committee to monitor progress.

Funding
Each Region is responsible for raising funds and the allocation of funds.

Overheads
There are no full time employees. Costs are kept to a minimum.

Committees
Edinburgh, Grampian, Strathclyde and Tayside.
